Eat & Drink — Walking Distance

Burgers and Brew is a five-minute walk for elevated burgers, an excellent beer list, and a patio that fills up on River Cats game nights. Drake’s The Barn is a six-minute walk to a sprawling beer garden and live music venue right on the Sacramento River. Broderick Roadhouse is a quick walk for late-night burgers and a Sacramento institution since 2010. Tower Bridge Bistro is closer to the bridge for upscale California cuisine.

Eat & Drink — Short Drive

Mulvaney’s B&L in Midtown for the best fine dining in Sacramento — book a month ahead. Temple Coffee Roasters has multiple Sacramento locations and is the gold standard for specialty coffee. Canon in East Sacramento for a tasting menu that changes nightly. The Kitchen for a chef’s table experience that earned Sacramento its first Michelin star. Hawks Provisions for the best brunch in the city.

Outdoor Activities

American River Bike Trail starts a 10-minute drive away and runs 32 miles through the parkway — rent bikes at Practical Cycle in Old Sacramento. Folsom Lake (30 minutes east) is the local boating, paddleboarding, and swimming destination in summer. Effie Yeaw Nature Center sits along the American River with self-guided trails and wildlife. William Land Park has Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town, and a public golf course in one location. Sacramento River Walk is a five-minute walk from the house for sunset strolls.

Attractions

California State Capitol building offers free guided tours seven days a week. Old Sacramento is the historic Gold Rush waterfront with a steamboat, paddleboat rides, the California State Railroad Museum, and Wells Fargo Stagecoach. Crocker Art Museum is the oldest public art museum west of the Mississippi. Sutter Health Park is a 7-minute walk. Golden 1 Center is a 5-minute drive. All within 10 minutes of the house.

Family Activities

Fairytale Town in William Land Park, the Sacramento Zoo next door, the State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento, the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center, the Funderland Amusement Park, and Apple Hill in fall (45 minutes east) for orchards, pies, and cider donuts.
