Sports & Events: Sacramento Republic FC 2026: Game Day Guide & Where to Stay
Sacramento Republic FC brings passionate USL soccer to Heart Health Park this spring. Local hosts share the perfect West Sacramento home base for game day.
Sacramento Republic FC Is Bringing Serious Soccer to Town This Spring
If you have been sleeping on Sacramento Republic FC, it is time to wake up. The Republic — Sacramento's proud USL Championship club — brings competitive professional soccer to Heart Health Park this spring, with two big home matches coming up fast: April 26 vs. Spokane Velocity FC and May 3 vs. Orange County SC. Whether you are a die-hard supporter in green-and-gold or a casual soccer fan looking for an excuse to visit Sacramento, these home matches are worth planning a trip around.
We are Ryan and Ashley, your hosts at City of Trees House in West Sacramento. We have watched Republic FC build a serious soccer culture in Sacramento since the club's early days, and we love hosting guests who are making the trip for a match. Here is everything you need to know for your Republic FC game day in Sacramento.
About Sacramento Republic FC and the 2026 USL Season
Sacramento Republic FC has been one of USL Championship's flagship clubs since its founding in 2014. The team plays with a passionate supporter culture — the corner where the Republic Ultras stand is genuinely electric — and Heart Health Park creates an intimate stadium atmosphere that is a refreshing contrast to the cavernous NBA arenas. You can hear every chant clearly. The energy is real, and it is contagious even if you have never watched a minute of soccer before showing up.
The 2026 season features several strong home matchups. If you can only pick one, the April 26 clash with Spokane Velocity FC and the May 3 match against Orange County SC — one of the most competitive clubs in the USL — are both excellent choices. Either game pairs perfectly with a Sacramento weekend: arrive Friday, catch the match Saturday or Sunday, and spend the rest of the trip exploring the city at your own pace.
Where to Stay for Sacramento Republic FC Games
Why City of Trees House Is the Right Home Base
Hotels near downtown Sacramento or Cal Expo run $150-280 per night during event weekends, and you are getting a single room with no backyard, no kitchen, and nowhere for the group to actually gather before or after the match. For friends coming up for Republic FC, the math never works in a hotel's favor.
City of Trees House is a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom private home in West Sacramento, about 15 minutes from Heart Health Park by rideshare. Close enough for easy access to every home match, far enough from the event-night congestion that you will sleep great when the night winds down. Split the nightly rate among four, six, or eight people and you are paying a fraction of what separate hotel rooms would cost — with dramatically more space and infinitely better amenities.
What Is Waiting for You at City of Trees House
- Private hot tub — After 90 minutes of cheering on the Republic, coming home to a 104-degree hot tub in a quiet, private backyard is the move. The hot tub holds 6 people and runs year-round. Spring evenings in Sacramento are warm enough to linger and cool enough that the water feels incredible.
- Neon game room — Retro arcade games (Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, The Simpsons), pool table, ping pong, and darts. Perfect for pre-match energy or a post-game wind-down. The neon lighting sets the right tone for a sports weekend from the moment you arrive.
- Full gourmet kitchen — Cook a proper pre-match meal instead of fighting for a table near Cal Expo on game day. Our 8-burner Mont Alpi grill in the backyard is made for a tailgate-style cookout before you head to Heart Health Park. We keep the kitchen well-stocked for guests who want to eat in.
- 3 full bedrooms — King suite, queen room, and bunk room. Sleeps 6-8 guests comfortably, so the whole group can travel together without splitting up across multiple hotels or separate rentals.
- Private fenced backyard — String lights, fire pit, and outdoor seating. The tailgate atmosphere starts here before you even leave for the stadium.
- Tesla EV charger — Charge overnight and drive home Sunday with a full battery.
- Fast WiFi (432 Mbps) — Stream the away match the night before, pull up Republic FC highlights, or work remotely if you are turning the trip into a working weekend getaway.
Your Republic FC Game Day Itinerary
Morning: Settle In and Fuel Up
Check in at 4 PM if you are arriving the day before. Morning of game day, we recommend starting with coffee from Temple Coffee Roasters in Midtown — one of the best roasters in Northern California and a personal favorite of ours. For brunch, Bacon and Butter on J Street is a Sacramento institution. The chicken and waffles are what the lines are for, and the lines are absolutely worth it. If you want something closer to the house, The Mill Coffee and Tea in West Sacramento is a local gem for a low-key morning with genuinely good espresso.
Pre-Match Tailgate: The Backyard Approach
We recommend firing up the grill in the backyard a few hours before kickoff. Republic FC's supporter culture has a tailgate energy that plays perfectly at home — get the group together, cook something proper, and head to Heart Health Park fed and ready to chant. Nugget Markets is 10 minutes from the house and is our go-to for everything from steaks to game-day snacks. It is what we do when we are headed to a match ourselves, and it is always the right call.
If you would rather go out, Drake's: The Barn (5 minutes from the house) is one of our absolute favorite spots — a massive, laid-back craft brewery taproom with excellent IPAs and pub food. They pour some of the best craft beer in the Sacramento area, and the relaxed, no-pretense vibe is exactly right for a pre-match afternoon. The kind of place where you stay longer than you planned and do not mind at all.
Getting to Heart Health Park
Heart Health Park is about 15 minutes from City of Trees House by rideshare — straightforward and stress-free. We strongly recommend Lyft or Uber for match days. Parking at Cal Expo is available but fills up quickly for high-attendance games, and dealing with post-match parking lot gridlock takes the edge off what is usually a great 90 minutes of soccer. Rideshare gets you there clean and gets you home without the hassle.
If you are driving, arrive at least 45 minutes before kickoff to navigate parking and security. Heart Health Park is a smaller, more intimate venue than Golden 1 Center, so entry moves efficiently — but the loyal Republic supporter section fills in early and brings serious chanting energy from the opening whistle.
After the Match: Hot Tub and Game Room
This is what Republic FC weekends at our place look like: you get home around 10:30 PM, still buzzing from the match, someone fires up the arcade games, and then eventually everyone migrates to the hot tub. Voices are a little hoarse from chanting. The night air is cool and clear. Nobody is in a hurry. It is exactly the kind of evening a soccer trip should end on, and it is the part our guests always end up mentioning in their reviews.
We have hosted guests for Kings games, River Cats games, Golden 1 Center concerts, and Republic FC matches. The guests who use the game room and hot tub almost always say it became their favorite part of the whole trip — not because it was flashy, but because it was exactly what the night called for.
Exploring Sacramento Around Your Match
7-Minute Walk: Sutter Health Park and the Riverfront
One of the things we love most about our location is the 7-minute walk to Sutter Health Park along the Sacramento River. Even if you are here for Republic FC, the riverfront walk and ballpark atmosphere are worth a morning or afternoon stroll. The Sacramento skyline across the water is one of our favorite views in the city, and the walk from the house gives you a real feel for the West Sacramento neighborhood.
Old Sacramento and the Waterfront
If you have a full day before or after the match, Old Sacramento's cobblestone riverfront district is 10 minutes away by Lyft. The California State Railroad Museum, Sacramento River cruise, and waterfront restaurants make for an easy few hours of exploring. The Boathouse at River Ranch has one of the best Sacramento River views in the city — the kind of lunch spot where you order another drink and stay for two hours without noticing.
Midtown Sacramento
Midtown is Sacramento's most walkable neighborhood for food and nightlife. Hook and Ladder Manufacturing on R Street — a converted fire station — has excellent cocktails and a kitchen that handles big groups well. Shady Lady Saloon is worth a stop if you want a classic Sacramento cocktail bar experience. All of these are 10-15 minutes from the house by Lyft and make for a great Saturday evening if the match is on Sunday.
City of Trees House vs. Hotels for Republic FC Weekends
The honest comparison: a Sacramento hotel near Cal Expo or downtown runs $150-280 per night per room. You get a bed and a bathroom, and there is no version of a post-match hot tub or neon game room anywhere in the building. For a group of four splitting City of Trees House, the per-person cost beats any hotel option in the area — and the experience is simply not in the same category.
We are not a hotel. We are a home. And for a Republic FC weekend, that difference is the whole thing: the backyard tailgate before kickoff, the game room energy after, the hot tub at the end of the night. It is what makes a soccer trip a story rather than just a trip.
